About Ryan Robert Jones
Ryan Robert Jones is a Minnesotan-born film composer and musician who specializes in writing his own form of harmonically rich, hybrid orchestral music. Most notably, Ryan is famous for his deep, emotive string layers coupled with expressive piano motifs. Ryan’s music can be heard on SyFy, FOX, CNN, National Geographic, Discovery, Lifetime, Telemundo, FOX Sports, and PBS; to name a few.
A turning point in Ryan’s career occurred in 2014 when he was hired by Remote Control Productions in Santa Monica, California under the direction of Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Gladiator, The Dark Knight). There, he was afforded the opportunity to be a part of the Oscar nominated movie Hidden Figures, as well as Junkie XL’s Deadpool, and Kung Fu Panda 3. During his years at Remote Control Productions, Ryan spent countless hours assisting and emulating Hans’ all-star team which included the Emmy nominated group Bleeding Fingers (Planet Earth II, The Simpsons, Blue Planet II); in addition to, an extensive list of other brilliant composers, producers, and engineers.
In 2016, Ryan was hired as an assistant composer by world renown composer, producer and musician Bryce Jacobs (Rush, SyFy’s 12 Monkeys, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3). While working for Bryce, Ryan contributed writing to SyFy’s 12 Monkeys Season 3, Icon Pictures Yowie mini-series, as well as a large list of re-invented trailer songs. At the same time, Ryan also worked as a technical engineer for Bryce on numerous songs including “Voices in the Water” by Lux Veritas which was featured on Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger. In 2017, Ryan had several of his original pieces selected by Audio Network to be recorded live by the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London, England.
Undoubtedly, Ryan attributes much of his musical success to Bryce Jacobs’ excellence as a mentor. It was under Bryce’s wing that Ryan was able to cultivate his own uniquely branded form of hybrid orchestral music and eventually launch a successful, independent career of his own. Outside of his commercial work, Ryan has written the music for award-winning short films such as Active Shooter which accumulated over 12 million views and Dawn Under Heaven which reached over 1.4 million views.
In his early life, Ryan took his musical education very seriously. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Metropolitan State University (St. Paul, Minnesota); as well as a degree in Audio Engineering and Production from the Institute of Production and Recording (Minneapolis, Minnesota). In addition, he spent considerable time studying music composition and piano performance through Normandale’s esteemed music program (Bloomington, Minnesota) where he completed an Associate degree in liberal arts. Furthermore, Ryan attended the Macphail Center for Music (Minneapolis, Minnesota) where he studied voice under, the head of the voice department, Vicky Mountain for over 10 years. Throughout his education, Ryan also dedicated himself to learning guitar performance and song writing from local, Minnesota talent Bruce Vosberg. Ryan is a masterful musician who is proficient in many musical instruments including: piano, guitar, vocals, mandolin, French horn, trumpet and percussion.
Ryan’s career long experience and education allows him to call upon an extensive musical tool kit; creating inimitably-innovative, emotionally-enriched pieces of music.
